At the heart of Nicaragua’s Jinotega region, Marlene del Carmen has spent decades cultivating coffee and community on her family farm, La Lámpara. A true matriarch, Marlene’s life revolves around her extended family and her land—balancing her time between nurturing crops, caring for animals, and preparing meals for the many people who gather around her table.

This microlot represents both her craft and her courage. With the support of Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, Marlene and her family have refined their post-harvest process and constructed drying greenhouses to ensure consistent, high-quality results. Each batch of ripe cherry is hand-picked, fermented for just over 18 hours, and washed to preserve the coffee’s natural clarity and sweetness.

In the cup, this light roast opens with juicy cherry and plum, followed by the smooth, creamy sweetness of vanilla custard. The balance of fruit and confection brings a gentle richness that lingers, making it an exceptional choice for pour-over, Kalita, or filter brewing.

Every sip tells Marlene’s story — of perseverance, family, and a lifelong connection to the land.

About Gold Mountain Coffee Growers

Gold Mountain Coffee Growers is a social enterprise that, in addition to its own farm (Finca Idealista), works directly with coffee producers in Nicaragua, including Guadalupe, to connect them with roasters abroad. GMCG is on the ground, all the time, teaming up with producers willing to take the steps necessary (and whose altitude and soil conditions allow them) to produce high-cupping specialty coffee. We literally stand on every partner farm during picking to ensure ripeness with refractometers and ripeness bracelets. GMCG also carries out sustainable development projects in communities, such as free computing classes for girls from coffee communities, medical assistance, microcredit, running water in schools, and educational supplies.
